Why would someone need such a list? The purpose of this list is to provide new and old webmasters with a source they can use when considering search engine submission.

There are so many search engines out there that are good, but then again there are some that are foul and use negative practices that can hurt your search engine rankings. Please be sure to investigate a search engine prior to submitting your website with them. Some engines are simple link farms and their only purpose is for advertisement and list building. They simply want your name, email address, and more so that they can add you to their spam list. You must judge for yourself and remember that the safe choice is Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

When submitting your website to the search engines below be sure to research each one carefully. We do not support all search engines in this list, but the ones listed below have a higher quality then some other search engines out there.. We are simply offering you a resource. The top five listings below are listed according to rank along with their estimated market value. Other search engines are listed randomly and hold a very small share of the market. I have excluded DMOZ from this list simply because I feel their database is full of dead, and useless web sites these days. When they clean up, and move out some of the lower quality web sites I will include them below.

	AOL Search - Powered by Google Site Submission	As of January 2008 AOL ranks as the #5 search engine owning 4.00% of the market.
	www.alltheweb.com Site Submission	AlltheWeb's index (provided by Yahoo!) includes billions of web pages, as well as tens of millions of PDF and MS Word® files. Supports searching in 36 different languages.
	www.altavista.com Site Submission	AltaVista, a business of Overture Services, Inc., is a leading provider of search services and technology. AltaVista has a rich history of innovation embodied in 61 search-related patents.
	www.alexa.com Site Submission	Alexa archives text on your webpage and adds priority on text and descriptions from the top of your webpage. Alexa will spider or follow all links it finds on your website. You will need a robots.txt and sitemap.xml
	www.hotbot.com/ No submission at this time.	Hotbot web search is powered by Inktomi, one of the world’s leading providers of web search services. A free website submission service is currently not offered by Inktomi.
	www.dogpile.com You must submit to any one of their search engine partners (Google, Yahoo, Altavista) in order to get listed.	One of the first meta search engines that queries multiple search engines simultaneously. Go2Net (owners of Metacrawler.com) purchased Dogpile for $55 million.
	go2net.com/ You must submit to any one of their search engine partners (Google, Yahoo, Altavista) in order to get listed.	Metacrawler has been voted multiple times by PC Magazine as the Best Search Engine and has won other awards. Metacrawler sorts its results based on the number of times a website was found in the top rankings
