Stick Figure Character

Postby MichelesPaintShop on September 11th, 2009, 3:16 pm

Here is a stick figure character made with Paint Shop Pro X2 Ultimate.
You can use any version of PSP to make this.

Give it a try if you want ;)

To make the head I used my shapes tool set to Ellipse, outline color black, width 10, no fill color, and drew out the head.

I then used the Pen tool to get my nodes for editing (in the pen tool options, choose edit), and then mold the head into a head shape.

I used my Magic Wand tool to select inside the head area, went to Selections, Modify, and Expand out my selection 2 to 3.

Made a New Layer, and made sure that layer was placed UNDER the character parts. I then Flood Filled it with any color. I then went to my 3D Effects to use the Cutout effect. I set skin colors.

I closed all my layers except the flood filled skin color layer, and selected it with my Magic Wand Tool.

I wanted to add some highlights to the skin. I added a New Layer, and I used my Paintbrush at a wider width, set to an off white color, and just put some curved lines in the center of the face and along one edge of the face. Since my selection is active I blurred the highlights by going to Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur, and set the blur to a higher number, and did not have to worry about the blur going outside of the face area.

I then used the Pen Tool with the line width at 10, color black, and simply made the rest of the character. Simple triangle for body, and stick arms, legs, and blobs for hands. I also used the pen tool to make the feet.

I did the same thing for the rest of the character. Each fill went on its own layer.

I then just put off white Filled Ellipse Shapes (small) on the shoe tops, and blurred them out a bit.

I also used the pen tool to make lips, glasses and hair.

I added a small drop shadow. I duplicated my work (window, duplicate) and then Merged all visible layers that I wanted to be part of my image. While standing on the layer called merged, I went to Edit, Copy, then Edit, Paste as New Image. I then saved it as a tube (File, Export, Picture Tube)

I also saved my original work as a pspimage so I can go back and edit it in the future.

I'm trying to draw this. The pen tool is giving me a problem.
If I draw a straight line, all is okay.
If I draw a curved line, it automatically fills in with black (making a black semi-circle).
I can't figure out how to set the pen to prevent this.
Help?

That's because you have your Background/Fill colour set. You need to turn it off, and use only the Foreground/Stroke when using the Pen tool to draw lines. :)

I learned today that my mouse has been going-out for quite some time! Maybe, when I get my new one, drawing a line that doesn't break into 10 sections will be easier!
My son has a pen pad he is going to let me use for awhile to see if I'd like to buy one.
